eGovernment and IS in public administration (worldwide)
e-Government is all about government agencies working together to use technology so that they can better provide individuals and businesses with government services and information. It is not a massive Information Technology (IT) project. Much of it is about establishing common standards across government, delivering services more effectively, providing ways for government agencies to work together all using the best technologies that are available.
In other words, the e-Government should not be understood as the application only of the information technology IT in the Governments agencies, because he is much wider than that.
e-Government is not a fashion item; it is a major step forward in communications that has been accepted internationally. It is not an option! It is important the government helps minimize the time the public and business community spend on transactions with government. This course will discuss implementation of eGovernment and its impact on public administration and whole economy.
Public services management and reforms (incl. healthcare and education)
The course builds upon an analysis of public service contexts. Explores the relevance and impact of government initiatives in highly politicised contexts, public service system models and the development of public services in selected countries (as case studies). It covers policy development, political drivers for public service agendas, markets and professionals as well as the importance of the economic context. Further into the course topics related to reforming sectors influenced significantly by government regulation (Education, Healthcare, Security forces,…).
Regional development and economics
This course covers location theory; urbanization and metropolitan growth; regional analysis; intraurban rent, location and land use, size distribution of urban areas; welfare economics, political economy, and urban problems. Students will understand the economics of regional development, and how to address various issues of regions from economic perspective. Students will learn about theories of development. They will understand how to do analysis of specific development programs, role of agriculture, sources of investment, techniques and strategies of investment planning.
Risk management (business and public sector inter-related issues)
Risk Management course prepares students to handle such complex issues as employee rights and benefits, insurance for health casualties, liabilities companies face and labor employment regulation. Students will learn about preventing unnecessary risk for companies, an essential need for private and governmental organizations. Estimation in property, environmental issues and insurance underwriting processes can all cost companies money and time. This course will give students the tools and knowledge to deal with these issues in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Personal development management and Coaching
The course is designed for students or professionals to explore opportunities and challenges critical to achieving career and organizational success. Students will energize and reinvent themselves through a process of reflection and personal development. Their organization will immediately benefit from their ability to successfully impact performance by expertly managing themselves and applying these lessons to managing others.
Throughout the course the students you will answer three key questions:
How do they most effectively interact with others? In what environments do they work at their best? How are they empowered and motivated to work self-sufficiently? Trainers and coaches work closely with students in uncovering key strengths in career management. Sessions include self-awareness, environmental assessment/understanding, leading and relationships, mentoring/coaching and the development of a career action plan.
Professional Ethics and Diplomatic Protocol
This course provides students with a foundation for effectively dealing with issues of ethics and diversity that arise in the workplace. Students are introduced to ethical issues that arise in the functional areas of business and develop the ethical reasoning skills necessary to address such issues.
This course also uses discussions to introduce topics on professionalism, ethics and licensure related to industrial management and organizational performance, total quality management, business process, leadership, organizational change, the role of communication and information.
Further into the course, the diplomatic protocol’s selected areas useful to managers are discussed and presented as well.
In this course, students discuss the processes, methods, techniques and tools that organizations use to manage their information systems projects. The course covers a systematic methodology for initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing projects. This course assumes that project management in the modern organization is a complex team-based activity, where various types of technologies (including project management software as well as software to sup- port group collaboration) are an inherent part of the project management process. This course also acknowledges that project management involves both the use of resources from within the firm, as well as contracted from outside the organization.
Strategic and inter-cultural management (incl. negotiating)
The course is divided into several parts: first deals with strategic management of an organization. Second provides a broad overview of cultural anthropology, giving students the tools to understand, speak and write about human diver- sities and similarities cross-culturally. Course materials emphasize issues of race, ethnicity, class and gender, making visible for students the inequalities and power dimensions embedded in societies throughout the globe. Third takes everything into account and discusses various issues that may arise during international (intercultural) business (e.g. during negotiations, contract preparation and its realization, etc.). Students who pass this course will not be afraid to pursue business internationally or interculturally and will not be surprised by various customs of their business partners.
Meetings with professionals | Practice
This is not a course per se. This is a default part of each MBA programme we offer. Meetings are to last at least 2-3 weeks by default and are designed to meet as many interesting people while making contacts in fields students are interested in. Whole two-three weeks of field trips and discussions with managers in specific areas are done to enlarge the network of contacts and gain certain experience from colleagues working in the sectors of interest to the MBA programme participants. As this requires 2-3 weeks of visa stay in the Czech Republic, we allow this can be skipped if a candidate proves that he or she already passed a practice related to studied MBA programme.
